I bought this laptop for school, and so far it has performed well. It is lightweight, handy and the google drive saving the documents is amazing. While it’s good for accessing the internet, typing up papers and playing a game/watching a film, it does not have the same capabilities of my 17.3 Dell laptop, so I consider it a companion to the Dell. This little fella is not for heavy computer use or for serious gamers, so anyone looking to buy one should keep that in mind. The weight is wonderful and it fits in my backpack without any extra bulk, which is exactly what I was looking for.
I still have to tweak/personalize it and also prefect my typing on such a small keyboard, but all in all, this little laptop performs as expected.
Update 8/22/2013: screen suddenly went black after being asleep with it’s lid down for a few hours today and would not turn back on. I googled the solution and they suggested a hard restart, battery pull, unplug from AC and 30 second press of the power key. Well since the battery seems impossible to remove, I unplugged the machine and did the 30 second press and it booted up. Apparently this is an ongoing issue with chromebooks and they haven’t figured out if it’s from a power surge or if it’s just gremlins in the machine. I am going to try to shut the thing down completely between uses rather than just close it’s lid and see how it does from now on.

I bought this for my 13-year-old daughter and it is a perfect fit for her.She uses it for school and it does pretty much everything she needs it to do.Not all of the software provided does what she needs. She had trouble getting the jpeg viewer to enlarge a document, but it was easy enough to download an extension.Much of her schooling is online at the moment and the Chromebook is perfect. It’s small enough to easily fit into a backpack, but not so small she has to squint at the screen or feel cramped by the keyboard.
The ChromeOS meets most of her needs and runs quickly with almost any decent Internet connection. However, she doesn’t want to be tied to online applications or Google docs alone so I managed to throw on a copy of Ubuntu under Crouton. This way she’s not dealing with a dual boot environment.A few key clicks allows her to switch back and forth easily.LibreOffice does a little better job of formatting documents for MS Word as well as PowerPoint presentations.
The only complaint I have is the battery life.Four hours is a little on the short side for a laptop these days.Sure, she can plug in most places, but she sometimes likes to work on the back porch or other places where an outlet isn’t conveniently located.
I am used to Windows PC’s but I found this Chromebook amazingly fast and after a bit of fumbling because of my Windows only background, I have found it very easy to use and become proficient using it. It holds a charge well looses only about 8% of the charge when on standby overnight (about 11 hours.) It is amazingly quiet, very light and thin. I have found it holds a charge fairly well, recovers almost immediately from sleep or standby mode, and boots in exactly 8 seconds! Now that is something a Windows PC cannot do! I like the PC and recommend it to anyone who is using just email and surfing the internet although I use it for everything including storage of all my files from a windows PC which died on me as well as my spreadsheets and correspondence. The small screen has not been a problem for me and I think most people would easily tolerate it. I like this PC and am glad I bought it.
I bought this as a gift for my daughter, who also has a Kindle Fire HD.Although she loved her Kindle, we couldn’t find a keyboard for it, and after much research we decided that Acer Chromebook was what she wanted. She loves it!!!When she starts it, right away, it’s ready for action! It’s faster than the Kindle, and easy to use, and the keyboard is great. She’s downloaded favorites already and uses them a lot. This little genius only weighs 3 pounds, and is easy to carry in the case we bought for it.The touchpad can be disabled and she uses a mouse with hers, although the touchpad works well, too. I’m keeping Chromebook in my gift list.
Chromebook was shipped very fast, too.We order from Amazon frequently, and are always very happy with our purchases.
This chromebook Acer has met if not exceeded all my expectations.Chromebook OS takes a little getting used to.Also tried playing movies from U.S.B drive, and had problems. Most my wanted apps were un-available, specifically couldn’t run Skype. I loaded ubuntu 13.04 and dual booted, so could boot into either O.S. Have all ubuntu apps, so can play movies of all wanted types, U.S.B,Everything I need to do connected or not to the internet. Nice. Also loaded Skype and with a little work, got that working which is great, only runs in ubuntu.Either O.S, chromebook or ubuntu boots quickly, does everything expected of it, and great, light, powerful enough system.Never had any problems with it, use it daily, 4 months now.

I was trying to decide between a chromebook and a tablet, and I’m very glad I decided to go with this chromebook. I’ve had it about 30 days now and am very satisfied. I never intended it to be a laptop replacement but it’s my go to device now for 95% of what I do.I’ve found myself traveling every week for work since I got this chromebook and decided to bring it along to get to know it.After the first trip I left my laptop and have just been using this. It’s perfect for getting work done on the plane and carrying from conference room to conference room.Overall I’m very pleased.

We desperately needed an affordable option for our children needing to work from home and this fit what we needed perfectly.Works with headphones and ample USB ports for add-on’s (mouse, etc.)
IMPORTANT NOTE for anyone not tech savvy:Chromebooks are not like windows in that you have to think of it more like you would using an Android phone (as it uses Android).Instead of using disks to install programs, you download apps from the App Store to make things work.Takes some getting used to if you are used to windows, but we were able to get everything we needed from the App Store for our daughter to go back to school successfully.

I currently own a Lenovo G570 Laptop that i love, and a Windows Surface RT tablet but this Acer Chromebook is by far my favorite device. It turns on automatically when you open the lid and within 6 to 8 seconds your at the desktop. It also came with 100gb free storage on google drive for 2 years, so that is a big bonus.I like how since it has a Solid state drive i can carry it around and pick it up and set it down without worrying about messing up a hard drive. The Chrome operating system is sooo simple to use as well, unlike my Surface RT, I absolutely hate the windows RT operating system.I was slightly worried about the fan always running and being loud but i have only noticed it when Chrome was doing a system update.I was also worried that it was going to feel really cheap and flex alot as the CNET review mentions, but I personally dont think it feels cheap at all.
If i had to say anything negative about it, it would be the lack of an optical drive, but Its not that big of a deal as i rarely need one. I wanted to go with the Samsung Chromebook as i like that brand better, but i was too worried about all the reports of the screen breaking for no reason that i decided on this one, and I am really glad i did.

I never write reviews but this laptop has been great and will probably end up buying more.I bought this for one of our kids that kept using our laptops for papers for school. They use Google Docs at their school so I figured this would work and couldn't beat the price.Set up was a breeze.Printing is very easy and have had no problems.Printing is with Cloud Print which may sound like it would be different but it isn't and is super easy.I actually set up a couple printers for her and it works great. The internet is FAST.I have a $800 Samsung tablet/laptop and the Chromebook is so much faster. I have even asked her if she wants to trade but she won't.Her internet goes faster than any laptop we have at home. The only thing I had to look up was that there isn't a "right click" function on it like Windows.I went to the help area on Google and got the answer right away.So easy. I like to edit pictures and make photo books of the kids and trips so I have a program I like a lot and figured there wasn't anyway I could do it on the Chromebook.I tried it out one day, since my computer is so slow.I looked in the Google store.Found one that was free and tried it.It was very easy to figure out and edited the pictures quickly.I store my photos on 1 TB portable hard drive and the Chromebook had no problem reading it.I seem to be the "go to" person at home if any of the kids have questions about anything on the computer because my husband doesn't like to deal with computers (still won't set up voice mail on his phone).I have had to work with the kid's I phone, I touches, Android tablets, Windows tablets, and Windows laptops.I still haven't figured out ITunes but this Chromebook is by far the easiest operating system I have worked on.My Dad was even going to buy one after playing on it.If you are thinking of getting one for internet surfing, writing papers, and even photos, this is perfect. It does have games but I don't play them so Ireally can't give any feed back on that.Oh, they do watch Netflix and Xfinity on Demand and it works great.
I purchased both the Samsung and the Acer chromebooks. I prefer the Acer.
Great little machines. The Samsung has a long battery life of 6-7 hours, and a great keyboard.it does not heat up at all. The acer has a 4 hour battery, and I prefer the screen which is glossy while the Samsung is a matt screen, and is not as sharp as the acer screen.the video and camera are grainy, but easy to use.
The chromebook is a great computer for google browsing, video chat, and the apps are great.there are tons of apps, and more are added.
I got a new one and a refurbished. Both arrived on time, and in pristine condition. You do not get the free storage if you get a refurbished chromebook.cloud storage is reasonable to purchase.you can use the chromebook just fine without the storage, and if you already have a google phone, you can use the same storage account. There are many free apps. The Samsung has a SD slot, that is very useful. Both the acer and the chromebook have all the needed port's to plug in accessories, like keyboards, big monitor, or external hard drives.they do not have disc drives, so you cant use accessories like the Wacom graphics tablet, and pen because you can't add drivers.you need an app.
the chromebook does not require antivirus. You can easily reset the chrombook back to factory settings.
Im hoping I can use the remote feature to help my friend use her new Samsung chromebook.she is intimidated by computers, so this feature is important to me.
the acer has some features that are useable offline, however it is designed to be used while using a high speed internet connection.
both machines are super fast. The chromebook would make a nice first computer, or a supplemental computer, but would not replace a personal computer entirely. Iv only tried a few of the apps, but the ones I have tried are great.
You won't be disappointed with the acer c7 if you are looking for an inexpensive web book. The Samsung has connectivity problems.that is improved with updates, However still an annoying problem.with the Samsung you need to reset the router every time you use it,however this is not a problem with the acer. I love the huge battery life with the Samsung, and that it stays cool. you may need to reset your router code to use the chromebook. The chromebook can accommodate several users, and has a guest user feature. I would buy the Acer c7 again, However the Samsung needs some software updates to fix the connectivity issues. My Amazon shopping experience was excellent. I have used amazon to purchase several things, and each item has been as described, and arrived on time.

Great for the price but there are some catches. I bought this laptop so I could bring it to school and leave my windows machine at home. I have been pleasantly surprised. Despite only having 2 gigs of ram and a celeron processor this thing really zips around between tasks. It boots up in like 5 seconds. The screen looks good enough. If you do most of your work through Google services even if the laptop breaks your files will still be there waiting for you along with your emails and bookmarks. I am satisfied with it but there are problems that may be a deal breaker for some. Cons: 1 - this pissed me off and I don't understand it. Only a very select few of printers will work with this machine. You have to use Google Cloud Print and it makes sense for businesses but for home use it's impractical. Google needs to step up and create drivers for our printers so we can just plug them into the usb and go 2 - Although it has a Solid State Drive there is at least one moving part which is the fan that blows on the processor. I assumed that there would be no fan for such a low powered processor but I was wrong. On one occasion the machine did get very hot on the left side. 3 - I had problems getting the chromebook to display on my TV through vga and hdmi. This problem may have to do with my TV that doesn't support many resolutions. 4 - This is the most annoying problem. There is some kind of grounding problem in the laptop. When the battery runs low the trackpad becomes very very difficult to use. It's so inaccurate it's just infuriating. The only "solution" I've seen to this problem is to touch the vga port while using the trackpad and this fixes the ground problem but this problem shouldn't exist.
Overall if these cons don't bother you it is well worth it's price at $199

The packages arrived in a timely manner and were in excellent condition. If you know what you are getting then there is no reason to be disappointed. What I mean by that is that most people think they are getting an all out lap top and then when it doesn't do exactly what they want it to do they complain about it being false advertised. Anyways, I knew what I was getting and it does what it is supposed to do well.First off I want to say that I am very pleased that I don't have to worry about viruses and malware because of the automatic updates and the lack of being able to install third party software.Considering, we got these for preteens, it is nice that we don't have to worry about them doing something to slowdown their chromebooks. Being able to set them up so they are kid friendly also helps. They love using it for you tube and net flix and things like that. What was really nice was watching them do homework on them. One of them recorded himself doing his science project step by step and wrote his paper on it using Google docs. The chromebook connected perfectly to my HP printer so it was easy to print out the report. All in all if you know that you're not getting something that gets apple apps or has Microsoft office, you should be pretty happy because it can do a lot and you don't have to worry about the device slowing down because it is virtually virus proof.
As of this writing, there's a new model, the C720 that's more than thirty bucks less than this one, or, a newer model with twice the drive capacity for twenty more. So, this item may not be a good choice for you.
That said, I got mine refurbished, which was pretty cheap. The difference between a C710 and C720?This one, the C710 has an ethernet port (RJ45), the C720 does not.The C710 has three USB 3.0 ports, the C720 has one USB 3 and one USB 2 port. So, for my purposes, I actually preferred the C710.The C720 has some architecture improvements that will mean nothing to most users.
So, the C710 Chromebook....Like I said, I got a refurbished one dirt cheap.Out of the box, it could have easily passed as brand new.It was flawless.I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I could get done with the Chrome OS, using just the Chrome browser as an interface to Google's apps. However, sometimes I do need a real computer. So, my plan was to install Linux on it as well.
I highly recommend using Crouton to install Ubuntu Linux, which works side by side with the Chrome OS.What you can't do in Chrome, you can do in Linux, and Vice Versa. For example, no Skype with Chromebook.Google's spreadsheet app blows chunks. You have to use the browser version for messengers such as Yahoo, AIM, etc. Sometimes you need real local apps to work offlie.Enter Linux. The best part is that Linux runs from a Chrome terminal, so you can switch between the two with simple keystrokes.
I was amazed at how well this all worked with only 4 GB of RAM and a 16 GB drive. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I have no idea why I ever needed a bulky laptop. This is the solution. If you do most of your "business" on the web then this has it all. Honestly, I'm a cloud guy. I'm a teacher. I have all of my files on the web. It has apps for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations. Yes, you need wi-fi everywhere. Yet, who doesn'tThe display is super. The keyboard is large enough for big fingers/hands. Clear lettering. Easy controls; USB ports, Google everything, You are up and running in less than 15 seconds. The sound system/speakers are weak but you can plug in earphones which then work great. It's Bluetooth enabled. Yet, I haven't fully used that function. Still need to play with that. Weighs nothing. Intel processing so it has mega memory capabilities. Great buy! Go for it..Don't spend more than $199. Samsung Notebook is the same thing. Your paying $50 more for the name Samsung. Acer is a good product. Not the best but they have made a quality Chromebook.
