Our previous Belkin WiFi router was close to 8 years old, so we figured it was time to update! As the previous one, setup for the new one was VERY simple (done in less than 15 minutes). Instructions are very short, simple, and easy to follow. You are given the option to use your prior network name and password so that all previously connected devices will automatically connect, and they did! The online dashboard and user friendliness, as well as the update to the website for your router are nice and make it very easy to set your password, check connected devices, block or unblock specific devices, and name your network.
This router is about twice the size of the previous one, but it is still small and easy to conceal on the shelf under our TV. Only thing that can be seen is the soft blue glow of the light saying it’s connected.
I have been a consistent consumer of Belkin routers. For years I have worked with the Belkin 600 and Belkin 750, excellent, good, stable, reliable devices. Encouraged by this I decided to buy, Belkin 1600, what a disappointment. The first thing I noticed is that although it is supposedly faster than my other routers of the same brand, that is not true. It is a very unstable router, my devices connected to the network, even though the router shows the indicator light of internet connectivity, several devices indicate that there is no internet connection. I turn off the electricity supply and then the computers, cell phones and tablets regain connectivity, this has to be done several times a day. If you are thinking about buying this router, I recommend buying another brand, the good price of this device will not make your work performance productive. This router is a real waste.
Excellent. I can definitely tell the difference with my wireless laptop, notebook and pad.So much faster. The plug to my old router got loose and that is why I bought a new one. Almost bought the same router again but so glad I did not.All my wireless are just as fast as my non wireless now. In a blink of an eye I can pull up searches, books and more. Also the range is much better. My husband takes his laptop to his work shop now. He was unable to do so before.

Belkin AC1600 has good hardware but less than average software. My impression is that in its zeal to make an "easy to setup" software Belkin hit the wall "big time". The configuration process of the router is just painful. For each and every change there is a reboot of the device to say the least. Worse, the software is designed for "door knobs", not normal people! Belkin has apparently very low opinion of its customers' technical aptitudes. Or is it that their product management people think that primates are going to install it? I came very close to returning it, but I didn't. On the other hand this is the last Belkin product that I would ever buy. I would definitely not recommend it.

Belkin used to be a great router. My old one lasted for 10 years. Now they are nothing but complete junk. I've tried two, N600 and N1600 in the last three weeks and encountered the same problem. During install, you are forced to update firmware and it screwed both up. Called Belkin support and was told I needed to do the update via a laptop, despite the fact it says right on the box easy install with a smart phone. I told the person how could I connect my laptop to the internet with no internet connection. The instructions are nothing but pictures and no where does it say you need to install the firmware with a laptop. Easy install is a total lie. The support tech tried to blame Amazon for the problem and I said nope because I bought the first one from Wal-Mart, it's your defective product, because I've had the same thing happen TWICE with Belkin routers. Don't waste your time or money on this junk and go buy another router like NetGear or another name brand. Will never buy another Belkin ever. Installation should be unpack the router, plug it in, type in the password and boom, you're connected. That's how the old ones worked and it was super easy. Now they've complicated it and it's ridiculous.
Setup was a breeze, easy to get up and running and it's got a nice clean upright profile... great price here on Amazon and for $32 who would complain??
I do want to address one thing though. There's a lot of marketing stating that this router is (up to) 4.3x faster than Wireless N routers... and while I wanted to love this router, it just didn't have the coverage or speed of the 2014 Belkin Wireless N (N600) router it was replacing. Not only did it lag compared to my N600, but the range just suffered and when tested in the same spots throughout the one story house, it just didn't compare.
I ended up returning it, and purchasing one of those new spaceship routers with 3 antennas for a little bit more $$. For a few extra bucks, I get great coverage throughout the backyard and absolutely zero lag while browsing/streaming. This one was having a hard time keeping up with loading 1 min videos on Instagram and made for some chunky pixels on larger YouTube videos that were crisp with my older Belkin router.
Overal, 3 stars; definitely a great buy for the price and for apartments, condos, dorms, etc. I wouldn't hesitate.
So I got this item on Wednesday and followed, what appeared to be, very simple instructions to hook up my new router. It says on the instructions everything can be done through a smartphone which I tried but later came to find out that this will VERY LIKELY CORRUPT the firmware and render the router useless. After being on the phone with a nice gentlemen in IT support, they sent me a replacement to which I received Friday and walked through the installation process with another rep and viola! Just wish they would have made a side note about the firmware.
Very expensive for a 2016 product. Coverage is good and speeds are good too. Quick setup and both bands work well. Would have liked better LEDs...(many in number, ie, signifying various things instead of just ONE).

This thing is going under the wheels of my truck for personal satisfaction. Not worth the effort to return. I've been fighting with this for a couple of months. This device has the worst web interface I've ever seen. If you intend to manually configure it, go elsewhere. It will make your hair hurt and take up drinking for a hobby.Horrible and a PITA to navigate, all in the some perverse concept of simplicity. On top of that, I can only get one or two connections to it at a time. Beyond that, they are intermittent. Lastly, logging into the configuration page is hit or miss. I can get in one time, and then the next 5 or 10 times it's not there. Can't find the page- 404.I've been installing wired and wifi routers for years.Pass on this piece of junk. I'll post pictures after I run it over....
This router is a good basic router. It provides most everything that a regular user will need, but it is lacking in advanced features. It does not support IPv6, but it does have reasonably strong 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals and supports the AC standard for faster wireless using the same amount of wireless spectrum. The lights on the front make it very easy to tell the router and internet status for an non-technical user and it has a very good routing speed for typical internet connections at 100Mbps or less. The 'self-healing' feature allows these routers to automatically reboot on a schedule of up to once per day as requested.
I have installed one at my mother's place... and one at my father's place... and they serve both locations well without issues.
NOTE: Spectrum (TWC) has recently developed issues with the 10.0.0.0 subnets that Belkin routers seem to all use for LAN addresses. I had to change the defaults to the 192.168.X.0 subnets on all of my family's Belkin routers... and I also changed the DNS to the new 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 Cloudflare DNS servers as these seem to increase DNS lookup speeds and somehow increase speedtests.
While I recommend these routers, the faster AC1900DB: (1) is now under 40USD; (2) has the same software feature set; and (3) supports IPv6.
Bought this router to add the 5 GHz band along with server storage to my setup. It has been a month and so far, I do not see much to complain about. Download/Upload speeds are comparable to those obtained when directly connected to the modem. The wireless range on both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands are reasonable and the connection is stable.
Upon unboxing the device you are greeted with a blue card on top that says “enjoy”. Flipping the card over reveals very basic depictions of how to connect the device. After removing this card from the box the router comes into view, wrapped with a transparent plastic bag and transparent stickers adhered to both sides of the router in order to protect its glossy black finish from scratches. The ethernet cable and power adapter are already attached out of the box and ready to go.
After following the depictions laid out on the “enjoy” card and entering the required information located under the router, I was greeted by the Belkin dashboard which first scanned for a firmware update but did not find any. Once that was done, I began to explore the features within the dashboard. The interface is laid out quite well and I had no issues finding and configuring the parameters that I needed. The first step was changing the WiFi SSID and password. I then added a password to secure the dashboard. Once any settings are changed the router will reboot to apply the changes, this behavior mirrors routers I have used in the past.
The next spotlight feature of this router is server storage provided by its USB 2.0 port on the back. I did not find any instructions on how to setup this feature and the router’s dashboard was of no help either. Most of the links/buttons in the “Optional Software” tab are broken and non-functional. This is due to the fact that Belkin configured this page to load these images/buttons from their remote server instead of hard-coding them into the firmware of the router. Belkin has apparently removed these images/buttons from their server and thus the issue. My recommendation to Belkin would be to remove the "Optional Software" tab in the next firmware update and instead direct users to their support page for downloads and manuals.
Belkin’s USB Control Center is not compatible with macOS Mojave but that is not a problem as you can access your attached storage by using the “Connect to Server” feature in the Finder. The firmware installed on this router can be buggy at times and you may be unable to connect to the attached hard drive. In this event you will need to restart the router. Before you attach a hard drive to this router ensure that the disk is formatted in FAT32 and that the disk contains only 1 partition.
For watching Full HD videos you will need to use a media player that supports caching (eg. mpv or VLC) as read/write speeds from and to attached USB storage is capped at 3-6MB/s (Megabytes Per Second). In light of the slow read/write speeds of this router from and to USB storage, I contacted Belkin Support. They where helpful in trying to improve these speeds, however they eventually concluded that the maximum read/write speed for USB storage was a “theoretical” 8MB/s (Megabytes Per Second). Factors such as interference and the number of devices connected to the router would cause a decrease in throughput.
Aside from the obvious discrepancies outlined above, I’m quite satisfied with the router’s performance. Internet speeds are surely not lacking. Be sure to disable “Intellistream” and set the “Self-Healing” option to initialize on a daily bases for optimum performance. While this may not be the fastest router available, the Belkin F9K1116 is decent. It is also one of the better looking routers that you will find and at a decent price.
Despite many positive ratings, this is NOT a good router. That is why it so cheap. It somehow cripples your bandwidth at 25Mbs down and 4 Mbs up.I didn't realize this for a year when I had lower service. But I moved and have Verizon Fios, which is 100Mbs down/up and the needle hasn't moved.I contacted chat support, which is outsourced overseas and it was a terrible experience. They immediately offered me a replacement, striking me as an obvious concession to a weak product. The firmware hasnt been updated in 6 years. Check that before buying.Any good product would be updated every 6 months or so.Frustrating because it amounts to advertiser/consumer fraud when you print download speeds that in NO universe will ever be achieved. Now I am trying to replace with something that works or just eat the $30 bucks as everyone does because no one has time to process returns.
The speed and connectivity were fine for about 3 months. It overheated (or at least I'm relatively sure that's what happened) under heavy downloading from steam, and never was able to exceed 1MB/sec on any devices connected and there were frequent connection drops afterward. Tried numerous fixes which i wont bother going into, but the point is it was crap after 3 months. I'm still giving it 3 stars simply because it was under $20 when I bought it and would likely be fine for normal home use (ie not downloading 100GB at once). I cant say i didn't get my moneys worth from it. Still though, you should be made aware of this.
when you replace a tired (5YO) component with a new gen, same brand, one certainly does not expect 1. same or lower (router data up/down) speed, or worse, significant dropped connections, before Belkin phone tech consultation, then 9 between JA04 and 24, with a one week period I wasn't monitoring. Skyped with son overseas yesterday, it was embarrassing. Going back to old router if I can't return this $100 lemon..
