I have worked in IT for over 15 years and have seen my share of laptops. I have always been a fan of Dell systems so I pulled the trigger and ordered this system in the Core i5 / 8 GB RAM / 1 TB HD / Non-Touch variety. As always with Amazon, it arrived in two days via UPS. I promptly unpacked it and powered it up. I was greeted with the normal Windows 10 welcome screen and selected my time zone and other pertinent settings.
Personally, I chose customize and disabled all privacy related settings. This can also be done after the system is setup and is entirely up to the user. I was pleased to see that the latest Windows 10 Build 1511 was installed on this system which saved me quite some time. After the system finished the initial setup and asked me to login with a Microsoft Account, I chose to skip that and use a local account instead.
Once the desktop screen loaded I allowed a few moments for everything to get loaded properly on the system. I then clicked the Start menu and went into settings, chose Updates and Security and clicked Check for Updates. This is important to do upon initial boot to make sure you get all the latest updates. There was a batch of updates that installed and the system rebooted and I was all set!
The build quality of this system was very nice. I like the matte feel of the casing and the keyboard felt comfortable to type on. I read through some of the reviews on Amazon and was a little concerned with the feel of the keyboard, but overall I was impressed.
The system I purchased was well configured running an Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 has lots of optimization and performance enhancements so a configuration like this should run very well and it did.
The screen size at 15.6" was perfect for my needs, and touch was not necessary for me. Everyone's situation is different so purchase based on your needs, but I can tell you that the quality of this system is in line with the price point. This is a good price point to target when purchasing a new computer. Far too many people look at the cheaper $250-350 range and I can assure you that you will get what you pay for. This is a perfect blend of price and performance. Windows 10 has come a long way since release, particularly with it's latest build. Good luck with your next purchase!
The Dell Inspiron i5559 has been an overall good performer and met the expectations of the new user. This particular model did not have a touch screen and did not make any difference to the user. The overall performance with applications such as the MS Office suite and the MS Edge and Mozilla Firefox browsers has been very good. No slow downs in response have been noted while using applications or the Internet (using 5G wireless connection shared with six other devices). This laptop came with the 8GB RAM that can be upgraded to 16GB. The backlit keyboard is a great option and has been helpful during night and low light use.The other plus was the CD/DVD/RW drive which has been phased out in some of the newer laptop models. Great model for home use!
I truly enjoyed this computer for most of its life (only about 10 months). If you asked me two months ago I would have left a glowing review. However as of lately I am starting to experience some issues with functionality.I've had some freezing and random blackouts.I have babied this computer taking extremely good care of it from the moment I pulled it out of its box.I thought maybe a virus but after using scanners no issues turned up.I think I am still under warranty and plan to be sending this computer back, which is a huge inconvenience. Not happy about that but what can you do.
This computer was fine for a few months, but now I regularly have to remove the battery to reset the computer. I've had several instances where I am working on something, walk away to tend to something else, and cannot get the computer to wake up upon my return...sometimes less than 15 minutes later. Also, if I close the computer without first manually putting the computer to sleep, it does the same thing.I shouldn't have to remove the battery on a consistant basis to use my computer!

The products specs as shown were for 8GB RAM and 1 TB HDD, the product delivered had 4GB RAM and 300GB HDD.
Product is clearly used, which I expected, dropped on one corner too but again, I can live with that... but not being sold the wrong thing. I'm waiting to hear back from the customer service and will update as I see how they (hopefully) resolve the issue. Mistakes happen, lets see if they can make them right!
**Update! We have to pay for their shipping back to Portland, Oregan from Texas!

This laptop is fantastic. Usually an Apple guy when it comes to laptops, I wanted something affordable but still fast enough to run my code (I'm a software developer) and enough space to dual-boot Linux. Even though the processor is only an i5, It's still a very speedy machine and the 8GB of ram and 1TB hard drive mean I can use it for video games and office-y things on Windows 10 and boot into Xubuntu to do programming.
Bought this for our son as a replacement to his HP Beats laptop. He was so dissatisfied with the Beats laptop that we sold it and purchased this instead. He uses this laptop for gaming with his friends and has zero complaints.Thank you, Dell.

I bought this laptop a few months back, because I was starting school and I needed something inexpensive, but reliable. This is a solid deal - it does all I need it to do, and is affordable.
My computer took a dive so I needed a computer quick and cheap. Found this gem and am glad I did. It works great and hopefully will last a long time. I don't use it for much except school but it definitely does the job.

this is a customer return, customer changes her mind and returned it, in open box new condition. Has all the accessory and the original box. Only used for a few minutes.

In searching for a good 'Back to School' laptop, my criteria was that it needed to be durable, functional & reasonable. I wanted a laptop that will last a while - not some junk that will break in 2 years. Because of this, I wanted a reputable brand. I've always had good experiences with Dell, so I decided to give it a shot. This Dell 15(3521) i15RV-6143BLK really ticked all of the boxes for me.
*It has the Intel Pentium Processor, which I've always preferred over an AMD. *It has a decent amount of Memory with 4 Gigs - then 500GB Storage on the hard drive. *This laptop has a DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive) - which was a nice bonus. *It has a generous sized 15.6" screen - which is in HD (780p). I really don't need 1080p on a screen this size. *All of the images are crisp and the colors are vibrant & bright. Great picture quality. *It's very cool - having such a large screen - with Touch capabilities. *The screen itself is very responsive to the touch of a fingertip & it's neat to do things 'sans mouse pad'. *So far, the battery life on this laptop is very good. On a full charge, it goes for several hours - no problem. *It's very slim & sleek. Light weight, too. The top has a textured design, which gives it a unique & classy look. *There's an "8 in 1" Media Card Reader, which allows you to load photos or any data from older (or newer style) memory cards. *It has Bluetooth capabilities and a decent audio system built in. (Waves Maxx Audio 4.0) *Of course, there's a built in webcam at the top of the screen. *There are Four USB 3.0 Ports - Three on the left side and one on the right. *There's also an Ethernet Port, an HDMI Port & a standard AUX port on the sides of the keyboard. *Even the keyboard itself makes me happy! It feels like quality. Typing is fluid & quiet. *It has a separate number pad to the right of the keyboard - which I prefer on a laptop. *The mouse pad is smooth - not textured, which for me is yet another little detail that puts this one over the top.
This comes with Windows 8 Pre-installed. Being this is my first experience with windows 8, I'm glad I paid a little more & got a "Touch Screen" - rather than a laptop with a traditional screen. It's really made my transition into Windows 8 more acceptable. Coming from Windows 7 and XP before that, it does take a little getting used to. That being said, this Dell Inspiron 15 has everything that I was looking for - and more. It's perfect for everyday computing and the touch screen makes it all the more attractive. It's so nice... I'm thinking of buying another one for my son... and keeping this one for myself!
I don't know if the problem is the laptop or Windows 8.However, together, both of them are terrible.First of all, Microsoft apparently thinks it made things easier by hiding everything, including my existing printers and settings. It took it upon itself to replace my printer with the one-note cloud "printer" which would not let me print anything. That's just one problem. Now, whether this is due to windows or the laptop, I don't know. What I do know is the combination is horrible. It takes forever to fully boot up.Half the time, it locks during startup and I have to manually turn it off.The touch pad is slow to respond and when it finally does, the cursor flies across the screen. When I plug in my passport drive, half the time, it is not recognized. The touch screen is pretty much a waste of time, as are Windows 8 "apps".This is not my first experience with Dell. The others were not very positive either.Maybe Microsoft will one day be more concerned with making a better operating system than it is will setting everything up to favor other Microsoft programs (how many times has it got in trouble for that?).In any case, I am through with Dell and I would definitely recommend NOT buying this laptop.
I ordered this laptop after a lot of back and forth between laptops. I had an Apple laptop that broke after 5 years but it was out of our budget to buy another mac. While 5 pounds seems light, it's actually pretty heavy and bulky for a laptop. The battery life is okay, I would say it lasts me about 6 hours on low/average use, about 4 hours on high balanced energy use. They updated the software to 8.1 which I like a lot more than the windows 8. The touch screen is a pretty cool feature, it gets a lot of "wows" when people see it. I don't do anything fancy on the computer, mainly browse the internet, write papers, download/watch movies and have taken some online courses. I find the computer to be pretty slow and the start time from powering it on/off/waking it up from sleep does take longer than I would want. If you're really on a budget and you want a big bulky laptop this is a good choice, but if you want something to carry around to classes I would look for something lighter/smaller.
Since I received this pc, in June, I have sent it back to Dell to have the battery and the plug replaced because it wouldn't charge. When it came back, it wouldn't connect to the internet, and I had to plug the computer directly into the router because it would not connect wirelessly. After phone calls, with Dell techs working on the problem, without success, they had a man come to the house to check out my system. He replaced a faulty wifi card, and it connects again.
I've also discovered that I hate Windows 8. I can't say that strongly enough. I haven't been able to store info onto a san disk, and I "lose" things, such as email, when I am in the middle of writing.
If I had known then, what I know now, I never would have purchased a pc with Windows 8. I have owned computers for, at least 20 years and have NEVER had the problems/disappointment I've encountered in the past 2 months.
Like the one drive tech so it has information stored from my iPhone.Works well but sometimes does unexpected things, like not being able to open google chrome.
